After 30 years of dedicated service and community impact, Positive Wellness Alliance (PWA) announces its decision to dissolve as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, effective December 30, 2025.

Positive Wellness Alliance has been a vital part of Winston Salem and Lexington community since its inception in 1994, working tirelessly to provide support and case management services for people with long-term and chronic illnesses, including HIV.  In the early years, PWA provided assistance to people with HIV in Forsyth and Davidson County, and through the years expanded our mission and our geographic scope.  We have served over 250 individuals on average each year, directly serving over 7,750 people over 31 years.  Additionally, our services have supported family members and caregivers, as well as the general community.  Kristie Hege, President of United Way Davidson said, “PWA has been a partner in serving community members living in vulnerable circumstances for many years.  We appreciate the compassion and caring the staff provided to individuals and families in Davidson County.”

The decision to dissolve was made by our board of directors following a careful and thorough review of cuts to federal funding, reducing PWA’s ability to implement a quality program.  The board determined that dissolution was the most responsible course of action to ensure the organization's legacy of service to those in need in our community, and its financial stewardship.
