our past

Positive Wellness Alliance began in 1992 as the AIDS Advisory Council of Davidson County in Lexington, North Carolina. The agency formed when community members became alarmed with the growing number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Davidson County. The organization provided transportation for clients to attend support groups and medical appointments. Case management agencies in Forsyth County would hold office hours in Lexington one day a week for those seeking additional services. In 2001, the name was changed to Positive Wellness Alliance to remove the stigmas associated with HIV. Over time, PWA would grow into a multi-county servicing organization.

our present

Today, Positive Wellness Alliance serves eight counties in North Carolina: Davie, Davidson, Forsyth, Iredell, Rowan, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin. PWA proudly provides comprehensive, caring, and compassionate supportive services for any, and all, persons struggling with long-term or chronic health conditions. PWA ensures that all who qualify for our services are able to have access to crucial services that focus on prioritizing health to empower futures.

our future

Moving forward, PWA will build a network and environment of support for those experiencing a decreased quality of life due to long-term or chronic health challenges. This includes, and not limited to, HIV, other sexually transmitted infections, and communicable diseases like hepatitis and tuberculosis. Additionally, we’re expanding to non-communicable health challenges like cancer, dementia, diabetes, mental health and addiction, pulmonary disease, and neurological conditions.
